Junior League of Alexandria awards grants, scholarships

Posted: Updated:

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - The Junior League of Alexandria hosted its Grant Awards Ceremony on April 15.

The JLA Grant program's exclusive goal is to support other non-profit organizations in the community who are working in the League's focus area by awarding them direct financial assistance. A unique aspect of this grant program is that there are no categorical restrictions on the use of the money.

The JLA has afforded the Grant Committee the liberty to consider proposals for any legitimate need in addressing Women's and Children's Issues--administrative, direct care and all things in between. In receiving detailed narratives of other community efforts, the League is better able to keep its finger on the pulse of these issues.

Grants are awarded up to $2,500.00 each.

The 2013-2014 Grant Recipients are:

LA Baptist Children's Home
LA Department of Children and Family Services
Alexia FAPA (Foster and Adoptive Parents Association)
STARS
NextSTEP
Volunteers of America
Rugg Elementary
GirlScouts
Central Art and Healthcare
Christian Love Baptist Church
Rapides Parish String Program
YWCA
Cherokee Elementary
CLASS

Five students also received scholarships. They are: Rachel Gremillion, Mallory Bartow, Carly Bratcher, Liraz Phillips-Anderson, and Brittany English.
