Learn To Swim. Pool Deaths Are Common In Spring And Summer

Posted: Updated:

Young boys are more likely to die from drowning than in a car accident,  according to a new study from the National Center for Health Statistics.

They found more than forty-six thousand people died from drowning in the U-S between 1999 and 2010. Swimming pools were the most common places for drowning among young kids -- while adults were more likely to drown in natural bodies of water.

Children less than one year old and adults 85 and older were most likely to drown in a bathtub. The researchers say alcohol contributed to many of the adult drowning deaths.

Formal swimming lessons have been proven to reduce the risk of drowning in young kids.
