ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - On April 19, 2014, the Alexandria Police were dispatched to the Circle K on Jackson Street in reference to an unwanted female, according to APD.

APD reported the female seemed to be somewhat impaired. She had been inside the store three times in the last 30 minutes.

The first officer contacted the female, later identified as Catherine Augustine, 54, of Marksville, sitting in a vehicle near the gas pumps.

Augustine rolled down her window and yelled “no” to the officer. She then put the vehicle in drive and accelerated rapidly at an angle, striking the officer and placing him in great danger, stated APD.

A pursuit of the suspect continued through Alexandria into Pineville ending in Grant Parish. The pursuit involved Alexandria Police, Pineville Police, Rapides Parish and Grant Parish Sheriff’s Office.

The officer that was hit was not seriously injured.

Augustine was arrested and charged with attempted 1st degree murder and aggravated flight from an officer.

This investigation is still ongoing.
