Renaissance Tax Up For Renewal

Posted: Updated:

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5)--The so-called renaissance tax is up for renewal this May.  Renaissance Home board members say they need the renewal to continue programs for troubled youth around Cenla.

The Renaissance Home for Youth board members say the tax comes up for renewal every 10 years. Board members tell us the money is  used to help turn around juveniles who need help that they can't always get at home.

"It's money well spent. For 25 consecutive years, we have had this audited by a firm and every letter has come back in with zero findings. We can account for every penny of public money that's been spent," Renaissance Board Member Ross Foote said.

The board says in 2012 -- 97-percent of girls at the home did not repeat offend within the year. On the boys' side,  that number was 100-percent.
