New president for Louisiana Retired Teachers

Posted: Updated:
ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - The Louisiana Retired Teachers Association has a new president.

James T. Stewart took over the position at Wednesday Retired Teachers Convention in Alexandria. Stewart is taking the reigns from Lonnie Dunn, who was president for the past two years.

Mr. Stewart told us he looks forward to helping retired teachers across the state.

"Their needs are their pensions, and hospitalization, plus the fact that we try to sure them up," Stewart said. "And their needs--were they to be personal or spiritual, or just friendships--we work really really hard trying to keep our retirees informed."

Stewart previously served as District 7 president, a job that will be filled by Ben Sandifer from Jonesville.
