App allows victims to track offenders

Posted: Updated:
ALEXANDRIA (KALB News Channel 5) -- A phone app now lets Louisiana residents who are victims of crime track their convicted offenders.

The app is called "VINE Mobile." It's available to users who have iPhones or users with Google Play.

Victims can track which jail their offender is in and be notified if they are moved.

There is also a feature that gives victims a list of telephone numbers for victims' services in their area.

"Being able to track the person who has been convicted of this crime through this program is a very helpful tool, I believe," said Lt. Tommy Carnline of the Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office. "It removes some of that doubt. They can go on here and sign up and can see where this person is. It's just reassuring to know that this person is still in jail paying the price for what they've done."

The app is free to download.
