ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - The Central Louisiana Connection was held Monday as part of Holocaust Remembrance Day.
There will also be a commemoration service in the sanctuary of Emmanuel Baptist Church on Jackson Street. Pat Waters, grandson of General George S. Patton, Jr. will be the featured speaker.
"Alexandria was the center place of the planning of the invasion of Europe," said Rabbi Harley Karz-Wagman of the Jewish Temple in Alexandria. "This is where the defeat of the Nazis, in many ways, started. When General Patton, General Eisenhower came and planned at the Bentley hotel, how to go invade Europe and ultimately defeat the Nazis. We can be very proud of that and that's part of what our memorial says."
