Young Blood May Boost Older Blood

Posted: Updated:

(CBS) New research suggests 'young blood' may be the key to treating aging-related diseases and conditions.

Scientists at Harvard and Stanford Universities transfused blood from young mice into older mice and had them perform a series of mental and physical tasks.
The new blood helped boost their memory and muscles by recharging the hippocampus, the  part of the brain which is linked to navigating and orienting.

Researchers have asked the government's permission to begin human testing, in hopes of finding new treatments for Alzheimer's disease and other life threatening illnesses.
