Airlines Will Get You One Way Or The Other

Posted: Updated:

(CBS) Airlines are making less money from your checked baggage, but they are making up for it in other ways and with other fees.

Airlines took in nearly three and a half billion dollars from luggage fees last year.. Down four percent from the year before.  It's the steepest drop since airlines started charging for checked bags.
Some passengers skip the charges through credit cards or reward programs, while others carry luggage on board.  So airlines increased fees for reservation or ticket changes and things like priority seating and seats with more legroom and on some airlines aisle seats. Don't forget the seven-dollar cocktails. Six dollars for a beer in coach.
