Parade will return to scene of Mother's Day crime

Posted: Updated:

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Organizers of a neighborhood Mother's Day Parade in New Orleans say they won't let the violence that brought it to an abrupt end last year prevent them from marching again on Sunday.

Two gunmen fired into the crowd last year at the annual parade of the Big 7 Social Aid and Pleasure Club. Nobody died, but 20 people were hurt.

The suspected gunmen and seven others face a June trial on federal charges. Meanwhile, parade organizers say they don't want people to associate the crime with the parade instead of with the criminals. They say holding the parade again - and returning to the intersection where the violence happened - demonstrates that they won't let violent crime take over their community.
