TIOGA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) -- Saturday morning was the opening of a different kind of Olympic games.

The Central District Senior Olympic Games at Tioga Junior High kicked off.

More than two dozen participated in track and field events, like shot put and javelin.

The games will be held throughout the month. They feature athletes from nine parishes across Central Louisiana as they compete for the statewide Senior Olympic games.

"It is a lot of fun, a lot of comradery," said Greg Baker, a participant. "Guys I have met over the last several years we kind of meet again and tell our old war stories, get out here and compete and have fun. It is a good motivating factor to keep you in the gym, keep you active, keep you moving. Just get out and have a little friendly competition."

This is the 24th year for the games.
