VA's Traxler addresses Rotary

Posted: Updated:
ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - The director of the Alexandria Veterans Administration healthcare system gave an update on his work Tuesday.

Marty Traxler spoke about what the VA means across the country, how they've partnered with the community, and the differences they make in the Alexandria/Pineville area.

He says they have recently added space for primary care to be able to see more veterans on the outpatient basis. They're also looking to increase to number of beds they have for the acutely mentally ill.

"Our goal is to help veterans who are coming back from Afghanistan and the ones who have come back from Iraq, learn to deal with some of the challenges that come with post traumatic stress disorder, traumatic brain injury and other illnesses that come with serving in combat," said Traxler.
Traxler was appointed medical center director in May 2013.
