La. National Guard Youth Challenge Program to host Family Day

Posted: Updated:

PINEVILLE, La. (KALB News Channel 5) – The Louisiana National Guard Youth Challenge Program cadets will perform a pass in review ceremony during a Family Day at Camp Beauregard on May 18, 2014 at 10 a.m.

More than 250 cadets make up the class that is scheduled to graduate on June 14, 2014. The formal pass in review ceremony is a tradition and is usually conducted by professional soldiers during a change of command. However, during this family day YCP cadets organize, manage, and lead the ceremony without any assistance from staff members. The ceremony will take place on the parade field, and will demonstrate the skills and discipline the cadets have learned while enrolled in the program.

At the end of the ceremony, the cadets will be allowed to spend time with their families on the parade field. YCP staff said more than 3,000 family members and friends are expected to attend.

“A pass in review ceremony is not an easy task," said Major Kenneth Paul, director of YCP at Camp Beauregard. "The cadets rehearse tirelessly during the weeks leading up to family day. All of the cadets at Camp Beauregard Youth Challenge Program have an important part to play, and the demonstration is truly a sight to behold.”

The award-winning Youth Challenge Program has been recognized as one of the nation’s most effective and cost efficient programs for targeting at-risk youth.
