Flags placed on veterans' graves

PINEVILLE, La. (KALB News Channel 5) --  American flags decorated the Alexandria National Cemetery Saturday morning.
Volunteers helped place the flags on graves to observe Memorial Day.

One by one, the volunteers stuck more than 7,000 of the small flags into the ground.

For Gerry Crochet, honoring fallen soldiers is a tradition. Crochet's family has a long history of military service.

"I've lost track," said Geralyn Crochet of the Disabled Veterans of America. "My immediate family, there's been five just since World War II. But, I also have my grandfather that was a World War I POW for over a year. So, that makes this also very special to me."

The Alexandria National Cemetery will hold a Memorial Day program at 9:45 a.m. on Monday.
