ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) -- Some members of the community had an early start Saturday morning at Alexandria's newest YWCA.

volunteers helped paint and clean the YWCA's new location on Turner Street.

The old YMCA was bought by the YWCA and is scheduled to open to the public on June 2.

The organization says it can't wait to open its doors to the community and show them what they have to offer.

"It's so important for the children for the families we've had so many families come in who live by Turner Street who live in this neighborhood who are so excited to see it open back up it gives the kids something to do the indoor swimming pool is great for people who have Fibromyalgia arthritis so this is definitely a huge need," said Katie Vanderlick, executive director.

The YWCA says it plans to expand the number of programs it offers at the new location.
