ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) --  Central Louisiana celebrated blues great, Marion "Little Walter" Jacobs Saturday at a festival downtown in his honor.

"Little Walter" played the blues harmonica and many historians says he revolutionized the instrument.

He was born in a small Avoyelles Parish town. But, while he was still young, he and his family moved to Alexandria.

The city honored him for his contribution to music with a festival at the amphitheater.

Local and regional musicians were there for the celebration.

"Little Walter, Mud Morganfield and Muddy Waters were about the past," said Greg Gormanous, chairman of the event. "This is about the future. We had a harmonica workshop at Tipitina's and we're going to grow that into schools. It's about the future."

Sponsors for the festival include GAEDA, the Alexandria/Pineville CVB, Partnership for Tobacco Free Living, Jena Choctaw Pines Casino and the Little Walter Foundation.
