Suspect in dancer's dismemberment to remain jailed

Posted: Updated:
GRETNA, La. (AP) - Police investigating the murder and dismemberment of a Bourbon Street dancer say two federal inmates provided information that helped them link the crime to a Kenner couple.

Detectives testified Tuesday that information was used to book Margaret Sanchez with second-degree murder and obstruction of justice in the two-year-old murder investigation.

State Court Commissioner Patricia Joyce found police had sufficient evidence to continue holding her on both charges.

Sanchez's attorney had requested the hearing.

Police believe Sanchez and Terry Speaks allegedly killed 22-year-old Jaren Lockhart on June 6, 2012, and cut up her body in an effort to eliminate evidence.

Speaks is being held in a New York federal prison for failing to register as a sex offender.

Most of Lockhart's body parts were found along the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
