VPSO arrest man in connection with shooting in Leesville

LEESVILLE, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - Sheriff Sam Craft of the Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office reports that at approximately 12:25 a.m. on June 2, 2014, deputies responded to the report of a shooting at Methodist Landing Park in the Leesville area.

Upon arrival at the scene, deputies received information from witnesses that Rodney McGlothlin, 34, of Anacoco, had fired multiple shots from a 12 gauge shotgun at Ernest Phaneuf III, according to VPSO.

VPSO reported Phaneuf was struck in the chest and, according to witnesses, Phaneuf returned fire at McGlothlin but did not injure McGlothlin.

Phaneuf was transported to Byrd Regional Hospital where he is listed in stable condition.

McGlothlin had left the scene upon the arrival of deputies but was apprehended a short time later at a nearby residence.

Rodney McGlothlin was transported to the Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office and arrested on one count of Attempted Second Degree Murder.

McGlothlin was booked into the Vernon Parish Jail.  Bond is pending.

This incident is still under investigation.
