Hurricane season preparedness

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) The 2014 Hurricane season started Sunday, and The Red Cross can help Louisiana residents be prepared. Their phone app walks you through the preparation process, and what to do during and after a hurricane.

The Red Cross of Cenla advises people to make a preparedness kit that includes at least a three days supply of food, water, plenty of batteries and flashlights, weather radio and a seven day supply of medicine.

"You can't wait until that moment to begin to get the things that you need, like your important papers, your important documents your insurance documents, a camera to document the damage that's gonna take place. People wait until the last minute," said David Melancon of the Red Cross of Cenla.

The Red Cross of Cenla also offers training for individuals and businesses called get a kit make a plan and be informed.
