City of Alexandria to remember D-Day with ceremony

Posted: Updated:
ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) Alexandria will hold a remembrance ceremony for World War II and D-Day on June 6.

The community is invited to the Holocaust Memorial in downtown Alexandria to participate and sing "God Bless America."

Lt. Col. Joseph Broccato will also give a speech about Camp Beauregard's involvement in the war.

"If it wasn't for D-Day, the nazis would have won the war in the second world war. I wouldn't know what would've happened to America if that horrible thing would to ever happen," Rabbi Harley Karz-Wagman said. "In the 1930's we didn't have the army that could succeed in fighting. It is what happened in Central Louisiana that allowed our army to become a modern army."

The event will start at noon.
