Central Louisiana remains in the grip of high pressure aloft.
Morning lows continue to average just above the long-term value of 68 degrees. Jena was the cool spot this morning with 68 while Winnfield, Leesville, Esler Airport, and Simpson reported 69. Warmer readings of 73 degrees were observed at Bunkie and Simmesport.
Afternoon highs responded to the subsidence of air beneath the upper high. This brought temperatures to their highest levels this year (so far!) at many locations. Fullerton in Vernon Parish hit 94 degrees with Pitkin, Leesville, Anacoco, Simpson, and Esler Airport at 93. Opelousas and Fairfield failed to reach ninety as the thermometers at those locations only hit 89 degrees. The 30-year daily average is 89 and the record is 101 in 1977.
Little change in the weather pattern is expected through this weekend.
