The Flu Could Still Be Lurking During The Summer

Posted: Updated:
Flu season may technically be over, but doctors say it's possible a few cases will be diagnosed this summer.

A new report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention looks back at the 2013-2014 flu season, the first time since the 2009 pandemic that H-1-N-1 "swine flu" strains were prevalent. The season began earlier than usual, before peaking in late December. Influenza can pop up during summer months, too.

This year, the flu was more severe for people over age 65, and it was the first year since 2009 that hospitalizations were higher for people between the ages of 50 and 64. 96 children died from the flu this past season., far lower than the 348 flu-related pediatric deaths during the pandemic.
