Local girl gives birthday presents away

Posted: Updated:
ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) -- One local girl just had her birthday party, but instead of receiving gifts, she's giving them.

News Channel Five's Steven Maxwell tells us how Kyla Cheatham is celebrating her 9th birthday.

On a little girl's birthday she is usually granted the privilege of being princess for a day, but for Kyla Cheatham, she's giving other kids that title.

"I have a lot of toys," said Kyla. "People in this hospital, I don't think they have a lot."

For her 9th birthday, Kyla is passing out gifts to children at Rapides Regional Medical Center - making her one birthday wish come true, putting a smile on other kid's faces.

"She is wise beyond her years," said Tracy Alltag, Rapides Regional Medical Center.

Kyla went room to room passing out gifts, hoping to brighten up the day for kids less fortunate.

For Kyla's birthday, she told all of her party guests instead of bringing gifts for her, bring them for kids in the hospital.

For Lydia Bordelon's daughter, Keelie, receiving gifts wasn't the only surprise.

"Never thought a little kid would be so sweet to another little kids like that, one that you don't even know who they are," said Bordelon.

"Some say I am going to get blessed, so that is all I want out of it," said Kyla.

Kyla also received a surprise herself. The staff at Rapides Regional Medical Center brought her cupcakes.
