LSUA Coach Zeilman named Coach of the Year

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - LSUA’s Head Softball Coach Charlie Zeilman has been selected as Coach of the Year along with McNeese State’s Mike Smith by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.  It is the first time since 1999 that two schools have shared the award.

Coach Zeilman led an unranked team at the beginning of the season to 21 wins in their first 22 games and finished the season 35-5 and ranked #6 after making their first ever trip to the NAIA Softball World Series.

Also recognized by the association was LSUA outfielder Brooke Thomas.  Thomas was named to the Second Team All-Louisiana Collegiate Softball Team.  She batted .432 with one homerun, 18 RBI, 21 stolen bases and was named to the NAIA All-American Second Team.

LSUA third baseman Heather Bunn also received an honorable mention.
