NPSO: Couple Arrested on Felony Drug Charges

NATCHITOCHES, La. (KALB News Channel 5)-- Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Deputies have arrested a Vernon Parish couple on felony drug charges during a traffic stop on La. Hwy 6 West, west of Natchitoches on Sunday evening according to the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies assigned to the NPSO Patrol Division, were patrolling on La. Hwy 6 West near Hagewood on Sunday evening at approximately 8:40 pm, when they stopped a 2014 Nissan Sentra for a traffic violation.
According to NPSO, during the traffic stop deputies smelled a “strong marijuana odor,”  which led them to believe criminal activity existed. Deputies say the occupants of the vehicle appeared to be very nervous.
NPSO Criminal Patrol Units responded to assist.
During a search of the vehicle and occupants, deputies seized approximately 5 ounces of suspected marijuana commonly called “Kush” with a potential street value of $4200 dollars, suspected  alprazolam, suspected drug paraphernalia, and a loaded Ruger 9mm semi-automatic pistol.
A five year old child was also in the vehicle.
As a result, deputies arrested:
Joshua Joseph Jordan, 28 of Fort Polk, La., was the driver of the vehicle and was booked into the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center and charged with 1-count of Possession of CDS Schedule I Marijuana with Intent to Distribute, 1-count of Illegal Possession of CDS Schedule IV Alprazolam,  1-count of Illegal Possession of a Firearm in the Presence of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, 1-count of Illegal Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance in the Presence of Persons under the Age of 17 and 1-count of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
Lashala Karbee Jordan, 25 of Fort Polk, La., booked into the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center and charged with 1-count of Principle to Possession of CDS Schedule I Marijuana with Intent to Distribute, 1-count of Illegal Possession of a Firearm in the Presence of a Controlled Dangerous Subtance, and  1-count of Illegal Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance in the Presence of Persons under the Age of 17.
Both suspects remain in the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center awaiting bond, and the child was released into the custody of State Child Protective Services.The vehicle was impounded by a lo9cal wrecker service. 
Deputies say the couple were traveling from Arkansas to the Leesville area.
Deputies Jared Kilpatrick, Clinton Dunn and Brandon Smith made the arrests.
