BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Gov. Bobby Jindal is headed to West Monroe to sign new restrictions against abortion in Louisiana.
Jindal's office says the governor will put his signature Thursday on a bill to require doctors who perform abortions in Louisiana to have the ability to admit patients to a nearby hospital.
Abortion-rights groups say the requirement will shutter at least three of the state's five clinics, leaving only clinics in the Shreveport area.
Supporters say the requirement protects women's health in the case of abortion complications. Planned Parenthood says the measure will enact dangerous restrictions on a safe and legal procedure.
Another bill to be signed will prohibit people who work for abortion providers from distributing health information at Louisiana's public schools.
