ABBEVILLE, La. (AP) - State police say two suspects have been arrested in the shooting death of off-duty Vermilion Parish sheriff's deputy Allen Barres.

Barres died Monday after calling in to report suspicious activity he observed while mowing grass on his day off in Abbeville.

Trooper Stephen Hammons tells The Advocate announced Tuesday morning the arrests of 20-year-old Quintylan Richard and 19-year-old Baylon Taylor.

Details of their arrest were not immediately available.

Hammons said Monday Vermilion deputies responding to the Barres' call found him suffering from gunshot wounds.

Barres was transported to Abbeville General Hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Sheriff Mike Couvillon and state police have called a news conferment for 1 p.m. Tuesday to announce details of the arrest.

It was unclear whether the men have attorneys.
