LEESVILLE, La. (KALB News Channel 5) --Leesville Mayor Robert Rose has released a statement regarding the sudden passing of Leesville City Councilman William "Mike" Elliott.

"On behalf of the Leesville City Council, the employees of the City of Leesville and the Mayor's office, I offer our sincerest condolences over the passing of Councilman William "Mike" Elliott to his family, Carolyn Simmons Swan, of Houston, Texas; his friends; and to the residents of our City, especially District 4, where Mike served," said Leesville Mayor Robert Rose. "The loss of Councilman Elliott is a shock that has saddened all of us.

"Mike faithfully served his constituents in District 4 for 20 years and was about to embark upon his sixth term. His service to this City was marked by determination and a tenacious spirit, especially when he was pursuing what he felt was right.

"Councilman Elliott never swayed from expressing his ideas about City matters nor from fighting for what he believed in. He served his constituents faithfully, even when doing so was less than rewarding, and he leaves a legacy of service that won't soon be forgotten."

Councilman Elliot was 61.
