Residents rally to "Stop the Violence"

ALEXANDRIA, La. (News Channel 5) - Cenla residents rallied to “Stop the Violence” Saturday morning.

A group of protesters gathered a Harmon Park on Monroe Street as part of a “Stop the Violence” walk and rally, saying that too many violent crimes have happened in the area.

The protesters say they want to remember the victims, and also bring awareness to the problem so that there are fewer victims in the future.

“We’ve had a lot of killings here lately and it’s time to put a stop to it,” rally organizer Sharteer Waldrup said. “It’s time for us to step on the devil’s head and come together as one.”

“The message is to bring unity into the community,” local radio personality Mr. Bow Bow Bow said. “It’s trying to stop the violence and help everybody understand that we are one. We are one city, one nation under God. That’s all we’re trying to do.”

Before the gathering at Harmon Park, dozens marched in downtown Alexandria in protest of these violent crimes.
