RPSO to assist Helping Hands Ministries distribute fans

Posted: Updated:

(KALB News Channel 5) - Deputies with the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office will be assisting the Helping Hands Ministries again this year in the distribution of fans to families and elderly citizens who have no air conditioning in their homes.

Helping Hands Ministries partners with local businesses and also receives donations from individuals of fans and other supplies to distribute to those who need them. Deputies come into contact with citizens each day on calls, that have no air conditioning. This partnership between RPSO and Helping Hands proved successful last year and they want to continue this positive outreach.

The amount of fans they have to distribute is limited. If you or someone you know needs a fan, please call Lt. Tommy Carnline at 318 449 5480, and your name will be put on a list to receive a fan. There is a limit to one fan per household or family.

“We appreciate Helping Hands Ministries partnering with us again this year for this important endeavor. Our Deputies see so many people in need in our communities and this is a great way for us to help get this much needed item to them” said Sheriff William Earl Hilton.

The fans will be delivered starting on Wednesday July 2 at 10a.m. and will continue until all of the fans are distributed.

A slow "farmer's" rain fell across the area today as the area was blasted with tropical moisture to the south. As high pressure setup across the eastern U.S., tropical moisture banked up against it and consolidated across the northwestern Gulf of Mexico. As a trough approached from the west, the high pressure pushed eastward allowing the tropical moisture to finally move northward in bulk. These types of events can produce hefty rain events around here and this event did not disappoint. Attac...More >>
