Flag fundraiser benefits local cemetery

Posted: Updated:
PINEVILLE, La. (KALB News Channel 5) -- A local Pineville shop is raising money for the Alexandria National Cemetery by selling American flags to be placed on soldiers' graves.

Crossroads Gifts and Gourmet is selling flags for a dollar.

People who purchase flags can either donate them in memory of a service member they know, or designate them for any soldier.

Proceeds benefits the cemetery.

The flags will be placed on the 4th of July.

"They're pumped up about it," said Cathy Powell, business manager at the store. "They really like the idea of giving back to the community. It's very inexpensive to do...The national cemetery does a great job. They are still burying anyone who has been discharged honorably from service and doesn't have anywhere else to be buried, they can be buried there."

The fundraiser ends on Thursday, July 3.
