TIOGA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - More than 6,000 people are worshipping on the Pentecostal campgrounds in Tioga this week.
This year marks the 100th camp meeting of the United Pentecostal Church here in Louisiana. The first camp meeting was held in Merryville in 1915. The Pentecostals saw tremendous growth through the 40's and 50's at they help camp in locations across the state. Then in 1946, the Pentecostals brought the land where the camp sits today. Each camp gathering is focused on preaching and teaching.Randy Harper, District Secretary, say, "It's been tremendous to see what has happened in the hundred years of the camp meetings, how far it's come from just a small group until what we are today."
