BUNKIE, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - As of July 1, 2014, the town of Bunkie had a new police chief.

Bobby corner was elected to the position and has taken over the position previously held by former chief Mary Fanara.

He told us that a couple of his future plans as chief are to establish an ROTC program and also a police committee.

He says that the committee would benefit both the police department and the people of Bunkie.

"When you have things that the citizens complain about, civilly that I can't handle, they can talk to the police committee.  The police committee can handle that for me.  Also, the police committee can handle if I need things. Certain things that I may need like victim advocates,” said Chief Corner.

Corner retired from the Louisiana National Guard after 23 years of service, worked five years with the Youth Challenge Program in Pineville, and eight years with the Cheneyville Police Department.
