ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - On July 4, 2014 at approximately 9:20 p.m., Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office deputies responded to the 2400 block of McKeithen Drive in reference to a disturbance.

Upon arrival, deputies contacted witnesses in the driveway who stated a subject, identified as Kelly Barton, 38, of Alexandria, was stabbing someone inside the residence.

According to RPSO, deputies forced their way into the residence, locating a male subject suffering from stab wounds to the upper chest area. The suspect had already fled the scene. A deputy rendered aid to the victim as other deputies responded to locate the suspect.

Acadian Ambulance arrived and transported the victim to a local hospital. Detectives and Crime Scene also responded to conduct their investigation.

Deputies continued to search the area for the suspect and later that night, with the assistance of an Alexandria Police Department canine and handler, located the suspect in a dense briar patch off of McKeithan Drive, stated RPSO. The suspect was taken into custody after a brief struggle.

Barton was transported to the Rapides Parish Detention Center where she was booked on Attempted 1st Degree Murder, Aggravated Battery, 2 counts Entry of Inhabited Dwelling, Resisting Arrest by Flight and Resisting Arrest by Violence. Barton remains in jail on a $220,500.00 bond. The victim remains in critical condition at a local hospital.
