NATCHITOCHES PARISH, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office Deputies have arrested a Texas woman following a 23 mile pursuit on Interstate-49 in Natchitoches Parish on Friday afternoon according to the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office.

On Friday, July 4, at approximately 1:35pm, the NPSO 911 Center received reports of a Black Ford F-150 pickup truck traveling southbound on Interstate-49 north of the Posey Road exit being operated in a reckless manner.

Deputies working in the area, clocked the vehicle speeding 97 miles per hour in a 75 mph speed zone.

Deputies say they attempted to stop the vehicle with emergency lights and siren, but the driver refused continuing southbound.

A deputy also pulled along side of the vehicle making eye contact with violator instructing her to stop the vehicle, but she looked at him responding “no”.

As the pursuit continued, deputies provided updates of their locations to NPSO Dispatch.

Additional NPSO Deputies, Louisiana State Police and Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Deputies responded to assist.

Deputies say as the pursuit neared the Cloutierville/Derry exit, additional Sheriff’s Units were positioned tactically near the area.

Deputies stopped the 2009 Ford F-150 as the driver pulled into the median near milepost #119.

Deputies say after the vehicle stopped, several verbal commands were issued to the driver identified as Tiffany L. Barton of Denton, Texas to exit the vehicle but she locked the vehicle’s door and refused to exit the vehicle.

Deputies continued verbal commands, and shortly thereafter gained entry into the vehicle.

Deputies say the violator continued resisting committing a battery on two NPSO Deputies.

After a brief struggle, deputies took Barton into custody.

Tiffany Lizette Barton, 32, of Denton, Texas, was transported and booked into the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center charged with Speeding 97/75, Reckless Operation of a Vehicle, Resisting by Flight, Battery on a Police Officer and Resisting Arrest.

Barton remains in the Natchitoches Detention Center awaiting bond.

Barton has a prior criminal history of Assault on a Public Office, and Credit Card Abuse.

The vehicle was impounded by a local wrecker.

Natchitoches EMS Paramedics responded to the scene for precautionary measures.

Deputies say Barton stated she was suffering from a medical condition and she thought that an acquaintance was out to harm her, that’s why she refused to stop for deputies.

NPSO Deputies were assisted by Louisiana State Police.
