ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5)--The week-long JROTC leadership program kicked off Monday morning at Alexandria Senior High.

The Marine Corps JROTC program is being held for incoming freshmen at ASH, led by senior cadets.  The students will spend the week taking part in various drills and marches.

They also learn about military history and careers in the armed forces.

"They're gonna take them through drills they're gonna learn some close order drills, they'll have some physical training, they will also have classes, classes in leadership, leadership trace and leadership principles. They have classes in team building as well because you know most military organizations work out of teams," Col. Joseph Martin Jr., senior Marine instructor, said.

About 10 freshman are signed up right now, but they expect at least ten more to join Tuesday.  A graduation ceremony will be held at the school for those who completed the training program.
