Rapides superintendent reads to kids

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) -- Rapides Parish Superintendent Tony Authement read to some kids at a summer camp at Christian Love Baptist Church Tuesday morning.

Many of the children there are about to start kindergarten. So, Authement chose the book, "Little Cliff's First Day of School."

He says, often times, kids can be pretty nervous before the big day.

He wanted to take the time to introduce himself and share his love of reading.

"I think it's important that I come out and deliver the message that school's not such a bad place to be," said Authement. "In fact, it can be fun and we can make learning fun. Hopefully we'll put to rest some of their own fears and anxieties about attending school as well."

The kids also got the chance to ask him about his job.
