ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - On June 29, 2014, Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office deputies responded to Christine Drive in Boyce in reference to a burglary where a firearm was stolen.

The complainant advised deputies they had returned from vacation and discovered the firearm and some other items missing. Deputies could not find any evidence of forced entry and detectives were assigned the case.

On July 7, detectives recovered the firearm and during the course of the investigation, deputies discovered that a suspect, identified as Marlon Terrell Chaney, 33, of Alexandria, had the stolen firearm. A search warrant and an arrest warrant was granted. The search warrant was conducted at his residence where other evidence was also recovered.

Heroin was also located during the search of the residence. Agents from the Metro Division were called in to assist on the narcotics violation and they took possession of the heroin. Chaney was arrested and charged with 1 count of Illegal Possession of Stolen Firearm, 1 count of Carrying of Firearm by Convicted Felon, 1 count of Possession of Firearm with Obliterated Number, 1 count of Possession of CDS II, 1 count of Possession of CDS 1 (Heroin) with Intent to Distribute as well as 4 active warrants for contempt of court, according to RPSO.

Chaney was booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center where he remains on a $560,000.00 bond. Detectives say the investigation is continuing and more arrests are expected.

“We will continue this type of pro active enforcement where firearms and felons are concerned. Felons in possession of firearms can only lead to tragedy” said Sheriff William Earl Hilton.
