United States-Global Image

Posted: Updated:
WASHINGTON (AP) - A new poll finds that the global image of the United States has not been badly tarnished despite widespread opposition to U.S. electronic surveillance since the revelations of National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden.

A survey by Pew Research Center in 44 countries released Monday also found that despite low ratings at home, President Barack Obama is still largely popular internationally in his handling of world affairs.

The biggest declines in confidence in Obama over the past year were in two nations where the U.S. was reported to have listened to the private phone conversations of national leaders: Germany and Brazil.

The median positive rating of the United States worldwide was 65 percent. That's 16 percentage points higher than rising power China.
