Two Alexandria residents arrested for cruelty to juvenile, child desertion

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - On July 13, 2014, the Alexandria Police were dispatched to the 1500 block of Bringhurst Street in reference to a family offense. 

The officers contacted Michelle Littleton, who stated her child was beaten by Jerry Chew with a belt. She stated he beat the baby because he would not stop crying. 

The officers then made contact with Chew. He stated he did in fact spank the child. Officers then observed whelps and bruises on the child’s legs and stomach area. The child is 16 months old.

While in the house the officers observed in plain sight, on an end table, suspected marijuana and a liquid substance in a bottle with the label torn off. 

The child was taken into custody and turned over to Child Protection Service.

Jerry Chew, 30, of Alexandria, was charged with possession/distribution of CDS III, possession distribution of CDS I, cruelty to a juvenile.

Michelle Littleton, 23, of Alexandria, was charged with possession/distribution of CDS I and CDS III and child desertion.

This case is still under investigation.
