Metro Division conducts anti-prostitution operation

Posted: Updated:

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - On July 17, 2014, the Metro Division of the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office conducted an operation targeting prostitution in the Alexandria area.

The operation focused on internet solicitation for prostitutes at local hotels. The Sheriff’s Office had been contacted about internet ads that are posted daily, offering “massages”, “hanging out”, “quality time”, “discreet” or “anything you want”. The advertisements are careful to not specifically mention sexual acts.

Over the past several months, Metro Division Detectives have investigated numerous narcotics cases closely tied to internet prostitution. In one night, over $1,700.00 was paid and taken as evidence from those soliciting prostitution. Detectives made one arrest for prostitution and twelve arrests for soliciting prostitution. All suspects were taken into custody without incident and booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center and later released on bond.

“Prostitution is not a victimless crime. These women are victims. Victims of their circumstances and what has lead them to where they are. And, as our investigators have learned, narcotics and prostitution go hand in hand” said Sheriff William Earl Hilton. “We will continue to monitor these internet sites as part of our ongoing enforcement efforts. I want to commend our Metro Division for their continued diligence in helping keep our parish safe.”
