Arrest made in domestic violence case

Posted: Updated:
(KALB News Channel 5) - On August 8, 2014, Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office Deputies at the Boyce Sub-station took a walk in complaint of a domestic abuse battery that occurred on August 5 in the Boyce area.

The victim stated that she and her boyfriend, identified as Thomas Kirby Miller, 27, of Boyce, had gotten into an altercation which resulted in the victim being struck in the face.

The victim still had bruises from the incident 3 days earlier.  The suspect also refused to give personal belongings back to the victim.  Detectives began their investigation and were able to obtain enough evidence to secure arrest warrants for Miller.

Detectives located Miller on August 11 and took him into custody without incident.  Miller was transported and booked into Rapides Parish Detention Center for 1 count Domestic Abuse Battery and 1 count Theft under $300.  Kirby remains in jail on a $75,250.00 bond.

“Domestic violence is still a very serious problem we face in law enforcement.  If you are a victim of domestic violence, please call your local law enforcement agency and report it” said Sheriff William Earl Hilton.  “You don't deserve to be a victim and there are resources out there to help you.”

Sheriff Hilton would like to remind everyone that October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.  If you know someone who is a victim of domestic violence, please encourage them to seek help through calling the Louisiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence at 888 411 1333.  All calls are confidential and you may call 24 hours a day.
