Ice Bucket Challenge made to Tioga Detectives

Posted: Updated:
TIOGA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - In November of 2003, the Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office lost one of its most devoted and hard working Detectives we have ever had.  His specialty was Juveniles and he made a difference in so many lives over the years.  There are adults today who will tell you “if it wasn't for him, I would probably be in jail.”  His name was Mike Wiley and he was a Juvenile Detective assigned to the Tioga Sub-station and he died of complications of ALS or Lou Gehrig's Disease.

Mike's daughter, Melissa, contacted Tioga Detectives Thursday after seeing the coverage on KALB and challenged her father's former section to meet this challenge.

Today at 2pm at the Tioga Sub-station, 1399 Tioga Rd, the Northern District Detective Section will meet the ice bucket challenge “head on”.

The Detectives at Tioga put their heads together and came up with a unique way to do this challenge together.  With the help of the managers of Head and Engquist Equipment Service, a front end loader full of ice and water will be dumped on Detectives in honor of their long time colleague Mike Wiley.

“Law Enforcement is a brotherhood and we miss Mike and what he did for the youth of our parish.  He never gave up and only stopped working when he absolutely could not do the job anymore” said Lt. Tommy Carnline.  “Getting cold and wet for a few seconds is nothing compared to the challenges the people with ALS go through every day.”
