LEESVILLE, La. (KALB News Channel 5) -- We're learning more about the Leesville man arrested by State Police on Monday for attempting to purchase a child for sexual purposes.

66-year-old Ernest Kickel, Jr. is charged with "attempted aggravated rape" and for "trafficking children for sexual purposes."

News Channel 5's Brooke Buford (Twitter: @brookebuford) has the latest.

An otherwise quiet neighborhood, this week, on edge about the neighbor they knew as Ernest Kickel, Jr., who was arrested Monday.

"You don't know who is who around here until something like this occurs," said a neighbor.

Neighbors say Kickel never spoke to them and kept to himself, only coming outside to cut the grass.

But, the sheriff's office says the quiet man that neighbors knew was hiding a dark secret, he wanted to buy a child to have sex with.

"This is very rare for our area, for sure," said Sheriff Sam Craft. "Hopefully, it doesn't occur very often anywhere else. But, you know, as we in law enforcement find out, nothing ever really surprises you."

The sheriff's office reached out to state police for assistance in the case.

VPSO says it was an informant who tipped them off.

"He knew the informant just casually," said Sheriff Craft. "Why he determined he wanted to go into this conversation, I don't know. I'm glad he did. I'm glad that informant brought it to our attention."

State police seized a computer and cellphone during the arrest.

Deputies say that Kickel doesn't have a record and they have no knowledge of him having contact with young children.

"Now, there was not a particular child being named," said Sheriff Craft. "But, he definitely had the intent to pursue that."
