West Monroe pastor's daughter dies in swimming accident

WEST MONROE, La. UPDATE: 9:00 PM Sunday (KNOE 8 News) - Sheriff Rickey Jones tells KNOE 13-year-old Sarah Tellifero was killed Sunday afternoon in a swimming accident in Tensas Parish. She is the daughter of First United Methodist Church of West Monroe Senior Pastor Jon Tellifero.

UPDATE: 7:45 PM Sunday (KNOE 8 News) - A West Monroe United Methodist Church spokesperson tells KNOE one of the injured teens has died. No names have been released. KNOE 8 News will have more on this developing story Sunday night at 10:00 PM.

Rickey Jones, Tensas Parish Sheriff, says four girls were swimming in the lake near the boat house when they were shocked by the ladder of the pontoon boat.  Jones says they were called to a private camp on the lake around 2:00 PM Sunday afternoon.  Jones says the motor in the boat house that operates the lift, had a malfunction and grounded on the pontoon boat and charged it. Two of the girls had to be retrieved from the water after they were shocked.  A 13-year-old girl has since died at the hospital, a 17-year-old girl was also flown to Rapides General and is in serious condition.

TENSAS PARISH, La. (KNOE 8 News) - KNOE 8 News has learned that four minors from West Monroe were hurt in a Tensas Parish accident. This happened at Lake Bruin in Tensas Parish.  Officials tell KNOE it was part of a summer youth group trip at First United Methodist Church in West Monroe.

The Tensas Parish Sheriff says the four were swimming in the lake when they were electrocuted by an unknown source. Two children were flown to regional hospitals. The sheriff tells us one of them is in critical condition. One is in serious condition. We're told the other two who were in the water are okay.
 
There are several members of the local church community who are at the church this evening for support, as the rest of the children from the youth trip arrive home. We'll be following this story and their condition and have more as it develops.
