LEESVILLE, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - Sheriff Sam Craft of the Vernon Parish Sheriff's Office announces the August 25, 2014 arrest of Jesse Lee Fernandez, 26, of Leesville.

The arrest of Fernandez is the result of an investigation into a shooting incident which occurred on August 9, 2014.

At approximately 10:22 p.m. the Vernon Parish 911 Office received a telephone call in which a male subject reported that he had shot an intruder at his residence.

Deputies and medical personnel responded to the residence located on Highway 8 West of Leesville.

Upon arrival at the scene, Fernandez was located across the highway from the residence, according to VPSO. Fernandez was lying in the ditch and deputies did observe that he did appear to be injured.

Fernandez was immediately transported to Byrd Regional Hospital where he was in turn immediately flown to Rapides Memorial Hospital in Alexandria.

Deputies and detectives spoke to the homeowner who indicated that he and his family were inside his residence when an unknown person began beating on the front door.

The homeowner indicated that he did arm himself and go to the door in an effort to determine what was taking place.

The complainant indicated that Fernandez pushed his way into the residence at that time. The complainant stated that he did display his weapon and instruct Fernandez to leave his home.
