ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) - CHRISTUS St. Frances Cabrini hospital delivered the first baby in Central Louisiana on New Year’s Day.

Shortly after 1 p.m. on Jan. 1, a healthy Crosby Elizabeth Cox was born. The seven-pound baby girl was delivered by Dr. Karie Lafleur.

Crosby’s parents Chris and Megan Cox said it was an honor to have the first baby of the new year.

“We woke up in the morning at around 8:30 a.m. when she said her water broke, and I’m like ‘oh man there’s no way we’re going to be the first baby of the new year at this point.’ When we got here, everyone was saying ‘oh my gosh, you are going to be the first baby.’ We just got lucky enough to have it,” said Cox.

Crosby’s parents said Dr. Lafleur made the entire process of having a newborn during the COVID-19 pandemic much easier.
