Grant Parish man arrested for multiple sex crimes involving children
GRANT PARISH, La. (KALB) - A Grant Parish man has been arrested for multiple counts of rape and sex crimes involving children.
In a joint investigation between the Grant and Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Offices, Travis Lee Knighton, 48, of Colfax, was arrested this week in Grant Parish after a victim filed a complaint. That lead law enforcement to find more alleged crimes in Rapides Parish.
Knighton’s charges in Grant Parish include 12 counts of first degree rape, 14 counts of oral sexual battery, two counts of principal to first degree rape and one count of aggravated crimes against nature. In Rapides Parish, his charges include eight counts of indecent behavior involving juveniles, eight counts of aggravated crimes against nature, four counts of first degree rape and four counts of oral sexual battery.
Authorities said the alleged crimes happened in both Grant and Rapides Parishes. On Wednesday morning, the two agencies held a news conference in Colfax, asking for your help to make sure that he stays behind bars.
”I want you to understand how serious this is, but I also want you to know that if something has happened to you from Knighton, if he is convicted of this, he is never getting out of jail again,” said Grant Parish Sheriff McCain. “So you don’t have to worry about him hurting you or anyone else again. If you have been a victim or if you know of someone that has been a victim of Knighton, please call us.”
”The horifficness of this crime is something that kind of gets to people, when you mess with children that’s a whole other level of things here,” said Rapides Parish Sheriff Wood. “If you have been a victim, listen to the sheriff, let us know. Don’t be afraid, because with your help, if you know anything about this or this gentleman, let us know, so we can put him in jail for a long, long time. Exactly where he belongs.”
If you have any information, you’re asked to call either the Grant Parish Sheriff’s Office at 318-627-2609 or the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office at 318-793-8166.
