Kirsten Thiels’ four home runs in a week earned her ACA Athlete of the Week

PINEVILLE, La. (KALB) - Kirsten Thiels has been on a tear last week; she has hit four home runs in two games. Her stat line is five for six with a double. She said she surprised herself by knocking three homers in a game.

“Actually, I never hit three in my entire life,” said Thiels. “So that was just crazy to me.”

Thiels said she felt great going into the game but her teammates helped boost her confidence.

“I did feel good going into the game,” said Kirsten. “My teammates had a lot of confidence in me, which helps me feel confident at the plate.”

The home run slugger needed a little spark from her coaches to maximize her full potential.

“I didn’t have a lot of confidence in myself,” said Thiels. “But Coach Frye told me if you’re in the lineup, it’s for a reason. So just her support has just been like so important to my success.”

Head Coach Allison Frye said Kirsten had a good outing against one of the top pitchers in the state last year, ever since then she had to find a spot for the Pineville star.

“She’s been a great defensive player for us since she stepped on this campus,” said Frye. “Watching her grow over the years as in the offense has been really exciting. In the state tournament last year, she got pulled into the lineup against arguably the best pitcher in the state and had three great at-bats in a tough situation. That is what really clicked for us as coaches, after that game we had to find a way to get this kid in the lineup.”

Thiels said she is very grateful for her teammates because of the way they hype her up means so much to her.

“It makes me feel so special,” said Kirsten. “I don’t really like the attention that but they cheer for me it gives me so much confidence.”

Kirsten Thiels’ teammates, coaching staff and her ability to be an all-around great softball player are what earned her to be the ACA Athlete of the Week.
