AVOYELLES PARISH, La. (KALB) - A man from the Vick Community near Effie has been arrested after barricading himself from police officers, according to the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Joshua Franks, 30, was arrested pursuant to an arrest warrant for criminal damage to property and illegal use of weapons or dangerous instrumentalities, committed on Nov. 16. He was also arrested for attempted first-degree murder of a police officer, two counts of illegal use of weapons or dangerous instrumentalities, illegal carrying of weapons, two counts of resisting an officer with force or violence and disturbing the peace, all of which were committed on Nov. 17.

APSO said detectives made contact with Franks at his home, where they said he brandished a rifle, refused to comply and barricaded himself inside. A negotiator attempted to reason with him, but APSO said Franks continued to not comply and fired his rifle twice inside the home, with one shot going through the wall in the direction of the detectives. APSO asked Louisiana State Police’s S.W.A.T. team for assistance. Shortly after their arrival, Franks was taken into custody.

He was booked into the APSO DC-1 Jail Facility.
